Ibadan – In a colorful and energetic display of support, thousands of people gathered at the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium in Ibadan on Saturday January 17, 2026 as Alhaji Oriyomi Hamzat, a renowned broadcaster and human rights activist, officially declared his intention to run for governor of Oyo State in 2027.

The event was marked by a sea of yellow-cl clad supporters from the Orankan Support Groups (OSG), who arrived in 40 buses from across the 33 local government areas of Oyo State. The atmosphere was electric as the supporters, waving banners and flyers, cheered on their candidate.

“OSG is a strategic ally of this movement towards reclaiming the glory of Oyo; we are resolute in our efforts to galvanize support for Alhaji Oriyomi and Ambassador Orankan for them to emerge victorious in 2027,” said Sheikh Mansur Murtadho-Abdusalaam, Chairman of the OSG.

Ambassador Shakirullah Orankan, the ACCORD Senatorial Candidate for Oyo Central, who was also present at the event, stated, “I have been rendering humanitarian services nationwide; it’s essential for my immediate constituency to benefit from responsible and responsive representation.”

Alhaji Oriyomi Hamzat, who is the Chairman and CEO of Agidigbo 88.7 FM, Ibadan, promised to fulfill his promises of good governance by implementing pro-masses policies. “The public proclamation of my intention for Oyo governorship race would put an end to insinuations. I have heeded the call to service,” he declared.

The National Chairman of ACCORD, Barr. Maxwell Mgbudem, welcomed Alhaji Oriyomi into the party’s fold, presenting him with a membership card.

The event was seen as a clear signal of a power shift in Oyo State, with supporters and party officials expressing confidence in Alhaji Oriyomi’s chances of emerging victorious in 2027.

“We’re ready for change,” said Dr. Musa Alongbija, a member of the Apex body of Oyo N Pe O. “The time for human-centred governance with prospects of delivering dividends of good governance beckons in Oyo state.”
