Opposition leaders hold closed-door talks at David Mark’s Abuja residence

Published on

ABUJA — Nigeria’s opposition heavyweights are currently converging as a high-powered Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) delegation storms the residence of former Senate President David Mark, in what insiders describe as a pivotal closed-door meeting ahead of 2027.

The gathering brings together some of the country’s most influential political figures: former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, alongside key actors from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), led by Mark, and senior PDP stakeholders under the coordination of Kabiru Tanimu Turaki (SAN).

As of 6pm on Wednesday, Mark’s residence had effectively turned into a political command centre.

Among those already inside are Turaki, the PDP factional National Chairman; former Attorney General of the Federation Abubakar Malami; and a line-up of former governors: Rotimi Amaechi, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, Aminu Tambuwal, Peter Obi, and Babangida Aliyu.

Also present are elder statesman and former Information Minister Jerry Gana, PDP factional National Secretary Taofeeq Arapaja, ADC National Publicity Secretary Bolaji Abdullahi, and PDP factional National Publicity Secretary Ini Ememobong.

While the agenda remains tightly under wraps at the time of filing this report, the sheer weight of those in the room points to one thing: serious talks are under way.

With alliances shifting and pressure mounting on the opposition to close ranks, the meeting could mark the clearest sign yet that a broader political realignment is taking shape.
