THE Ogun Area 1 command of the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) said it has intercepted and seized substantial quantities of cannabis sativa and Tramaking tablets; a brand of tramadol, worth N117,587,405.00 from border areas across the state.

The Area Controller, Comptroller James Ojo, who disclosed this during a media briefing on the interception and handing over of the contraband to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, on Friday, noted that the seizure underscored the severity of drug trafficking within the nation’s borders.

He added that the operations were successfully carried out across various strategic locations in Ogun State.

According to Ojo, the contraband include; Cannabis Sativa, 5,256 coconut size wraps valued at N46,981,742, Cannabis Sativa, 46 book size wraps valued at N411,179, 1,202 bread size wraps, valued at N10,744,302 and 403 sacks valued at N16, 010, 182.

He lamented that the seizures show the severity of drug trafficking adding that the height of illicit drug smuggling in recent times is too alarming and worrisome.

Comptroller Ojo maintained that the successful interception of these substances shows the command’s unwavering dedication to safeguarding and mitigating the risks it poses to youths, families, and communities.

The Comptroller said “From January to 21 November 2024, through credible intelligence and strategic operations, the operatives of the Ogun I Command intercepted and seized substantial quantities of cannabis sativa and Tramaking tablets, another brand of tramadol.

Ojo while commending the officers for their vigilance and courage, warned those who engage in the nefarious trade of drug trafficking and other smuggling activities to desist.

Receiving the exhibits, Olusegun Adeyeye, Commander NDLEA, Idiroko Special Command, commended the Customs Area command for their doggedness, efforts and contributions in the fight against illicit drugs.
