This commitment was made by the Chief Corporate Communications Officer (CCCO) of NNPCL, Olufemi Soneye, during a visit by the newly elected FCT NUJ Executive, led by Chairman Comrade Grace Ike, to the NNPCL corporate headquarters in Abuja.

“We want a vibrant media profession where people can practice well and be unbiased,” Soneye stated. “We will support you in any way that would help you in moving the union forward. We would be partners and we are here for you. Use your tenure to change things and restore the dignity of the journalism profession.”

In her remarks, Comrade Grace Ike explained the purpose of the visit, emphasizing the importance of strategic partnerships in nation-building. She introduced the newly elected executives of the NUJ FCT Council, highlighting their commitment to upholding high standards of journalism and fostering collaboration with key stakeholders like NNPCL.

“This visit represents not only an opportunity to deepen our relationship but also a moment to reaffirm the critical role of strategic partnerships in nation-building,” Ike said. “Our tenure is driven by a vision to create partnerships that benefit not just our institutions but the broader society, ensuring accurate, fair, and development-oriented reporting.”

Ike outlined the need for partnership, noting that NNPCL plays a pivotal role in driving national growth, while the NUJ serves as the voice of the people and a platform for advocacy and accountability. She expressed confidence that collaboration would enhance public trust in NNPCL’s operations and align with its mission to ensure Nigeria’s energy security and economic stability.

The FCT NUJ Chairman also discussed opportunities for collaboration, including media tours, policy dialogues, and special reports to showcase NNPCL’s achievements and role in the energy transition. She emphasized the importance of capacity-building programs for journalists, focusing on energy reporting, data journalism, and understanding the oil and gas industry.

“We are committed to portraying NNPCL’s contributions to national development in an accurate and positive light,” Ike assured. “By working together, we can counter misinformation and promote an informed citizenry.”

Ike reiterated the readiness of the FCT NUJ Council to collaborate with NNPCL in building a strong, mutually beneficial partnership that advances the interests of both institutions and contributes to the prosperity of the nation.
