National Identity Management Commission Reiterates Zero Tolerance for Extortion
The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has reaffirmed its commitment to zero tolerance for extortion, emphasizing that enrollment for the National Identity Number (NIN) is free.

In a statement released on Friday, Kayode Adegoke, Head of Corporate Communications at NIMC, stressed that the Commission does not charge applicants for NIN enrollment, nor does it authorize its staff or Front-End Partners (FEP) to do so ¹.

The Commission has directed security agencies to track down any staff or FEPs caught extorting applicants for NIN enrollment.

Those found guilty will face sanctions in line with the law, and the license of such FEP will be withdrawn.

NIMC has also urged the public to report any instances of extortion through email at [email protected] or phone number 07002255646.

The Commission is committed to ensuring seamless enrollment services and stamping out extortion.

This move is part of NIMC’s efforts to maintain transparency and accountability in its operations.

The Commission has previously taken steps to address extortion allegations, including suspending staff and terminating appointments of those found guilty ².

By reiterating its zero-tolerance policy, NIMC aims to reassure Nigerians that enrollment for the NIN is free and accessible to all.
