The members of the newly inaugurated Chief Ezekiel Adaji – led State Working Committee, SWC, of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, in Benue State were on Friday locked out of the State Secretariat of the party.

This came less than 24 hours after the State Congress elected the new leaders to take over leadership in the state following weeks of tussle among members. The building located on No.1 Ochagu Lawani Street Makurdi which belongs to Senator Gabriel Suswam has been the state headquarters of the party for several years.

The SWC members led by the Chairman had gone to the Secretariat to receive handover notes from the outgone Caretaker State Working Committee and commence routine administrative exercise ahead of Saturday’s Local Government elections in the State but were denied access.

The premises looked deserted while the main entrance gate was padlocked without the presence of gatemen who usually man the entrance.

The new State Chairman made efforts to contact those who should be in position to know why the secretariat was locked, but all efforts proved abortive.

The PDP Chairman eventually got the Caretaker Secretary on phone, but the Secretary said they also got information that the Secretariat was under lock and key, hence the absence of members of the Caretaker State Working Committee at the Secretariat.

Reacting to the development Chief Adaji said: “I will consult with relevant stakeholders on the next line of action.”
