The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has categorically denied reports claiming that the Statistician General of the Federation, Adeniran Adeyemi, was invited for questioning by the Department of State Services (DSS).

The alleged invitation was supposedly linked to the release of a contentious survey report on ransom payments in Nigeria.
According to the NBS, the report suggesting that the DSS was scrutinizing the methodology and data used in the report is entirely false.

The report had claimed that ransom payments had reached alarming levels, sparking widespread national and international reactions.

Mr. Sunday Ichidei, Head of Media and Public Affairs at the NBS, vehemently denied the report in a statement to newsmen on Thursday, urging the public to disregard it.

This clarification aims to put an end to the speculation and misinformation surrounding the Statistician General’s purported arrest.
Meanwhile, the Bureau said that its website has been compromised by cyber fraudsters.

The Bureau warned the public to disregard any messages or reports published on the website until further notice.

The NBS said its team has been mobilized to ascertain the cause of the compromise and swiftly resolve the issue to restore full functionality.
