A mild drama erupted at the international wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport, Abuja, on Tuesday, after Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan (PDP, Kogi Central) alleged that her passport was seized on the orders of Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
The Senator who posted a live video of her ordeal on her social media handles which has since gone viral, was seen verbally angry, querying immigration officers after her passport was allegedly seized and she was prevented from boarding her flight.
In the video, Senator Natasha was heard accusing the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio being behind her ordeal.
According to her, it was he who had instructed the Comptroller General of Immigration to confiscate her passport without explanation.
She further stated that, the incident occurred just as she was preparing to board a flight. She expressed disbelief over what she described as a violation of her right to free movement.
Senator Natasha said, “What offence have I committed? Why are you withholding my passport?
Hello my fellow Nigerians, my name is Senator Natasha Akpoti-Udiaghan. Having completed the celebration of my 2nd anniversary i decided to take a week off I’m at the Airport and my passport is being withheld again.
“This same thing happened last time when my passport was seized. I have committed no offence and there is no order of the court to withhold my passport.
“The last time this thing happened the officer in charge told us that the Senate President instructed that they should stop me from traveling because each time I travel out of the country I smear the country’s image by granting interviews in international media. Can you tell them to return my passport and this embarrassment should stop.”
While the senator was still streaming live, the female immigration officer who initially withheld the document eventually returned it to her. The Senate President’s office is yet to respond to her allegations.
