MNJTF Troops rescue 38 hostages, disrupt Boko Haram supply chain in Borno

Published on

Troops from the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) operating under Sector 3 in Monguno, Borno State, have successfully rescued 38 hostages and dismantled a crucial logistics supply chain for Boko Haram during a heightened clearance operation.

In a statement released by Lt. Col. Olaniyi Osoba, it was reported that the troops conducted the intensive operation in the Kukawa Local Government Area and the Baga Axis, where they intercepted a group of Boko Haram militants moving a significant number of captives.

Upon encountering the troops, the terrorists fled, abandoning the hostages, who were swiftly rescued on the scene. The rescued individuals included 8 men, 8 women, and 24 children.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the hostages were being transported from a Boko Haram enclave in Dogon Chikwu, an area increasingly under pressure from MNJTF operations. The troops are currently in pursuit of the fleeing terrorists, who may still be holding additional captives.

In another operation, MNJTF forces disrupted a Boko Haram logistics syndicate operating in the Gubio area. This syndicate was discovered using three vehicles to transport various supplies to terrorist hideouts.

The apprehended suspects—Mustapha Muhamadu, Abdullahi Muhammed, and Usman Bintumi—were found with a considerable amount of food items, clothing, medical supplies, and other essential goods.

These successful operations underscore the ongoing commitment of the MNJTF and regional forces to fight terrorism and protect innocent civilians in the Lake Chad region. They also highlight the effectiveness of the MNJTF’s intelligence-led strategy and the collaboration between military personnel and the Civilian Joint Task Forces.
