Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, has praised President Bola Tinubu’s performance, saying that those who criticize him are motivated by jealousy and envy.

According to Umahi, President Tinubu had a vision 25 years ago, which God has now given him the opportunity to actualize.
Umahi made these comments after an

investigative hearing with the Senate Committee on Works, where they discussed federal government road projects and the controversy surrounding the Lagos-Calabar coastal project.

He emphasized that the criticisms of President Tinubu are “borne out of envy and jealousy,” adding that the President’s decisions, including the tax reform bill, have been successful.

Regarding the Lagos-Calabar coastal project, Umahi explained that the diversion of the road was necessary to avoid destroying African and MTM cables, which would have had severe consequences for Nigeria and other West African countries.

He noted that the diverted route passes through bare land, with no houses or structures demolished.

Umahi also commended the Senate Committee on Works for supporting President Tinubu, particularly Senator Barinada Mpigi, who moved a motion for the President to continue in 2027 to complete ongoing projects.

The Minister expressed his determination to continue fighting for value for money from contractors, with the President’s backing.

Furthermore, Umahi revealed that President Tinubu has directed the Ministry of Works to support serious indigenous contractors, as some expatriate contractors have been awarded multiple projects without the necessary equipment or personnel. This move aims to promote local contractors and ensure that projects are completed efficiently.
