The Joint Task Force North West Operation Fansan Yamma has addressed recent reports of a military fighter jet allegedly bombing civilian structures in two villages of Silame Local Government Area, Sokoto State.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Abubakar Abdullahi, Coordinator of the Joint Media Coordination Centre, the reports have raised concerns, but it’s crucial to clarify that military operations are conducted based on thorough intelligence and reconnaissance missions.
The military emphasized that its operations aim to ensure precision and protect civilian lives, particularly when targeting groups like the Lakurawa terrorist organization. The public is urged to rely on confirmed information to prevent misinformation and unnecessary panic.
However, media reports indicate that a military airstrike in Gidan Bisa village, Silame Local Government Area, resulted in the deaths of 10 villagers and numerous livestock. Governor Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto State described the incident as “unfortunate” and attributed it to “divine destiny”.

The military has cautioned that terrorist groups may attempt to undermine military successes through media disinformation, emphasizing the need for caution when sharing unverified claims.
The targets struck in the vicinity of Gidan Sama and Rumtuwa have been positively identified as associated with the Lakurawa group, justifying the military action taken.
