Lagos State has made a remarkable impression at the just-concluded National Festival of Arts and Culture (NAFEST) 2024, held in Abuja from November 23rd to 30th.
The state secured impressive wins in various categories, including first position in storytelling and traditional board game competitions.
According to the Special Adviser to the State Governor on Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Mr. Idris Aregbe, “This achievement is a testament to the exceptional leadership of Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, the Executive Governor of Lagos State.” Aregbe added that the state’s outstanding performance was a result of the governor’s commitment to promoting arts and culture in Lagos State.
The Director-General of the National Council for Arts and Culture (NCAC), Mr. Obi Asika, described NAFEST as a “Cultural Olympics” that had the potential to “connect” and “empower” Nigerians. Asika emphasized that culture and people were Nigeria’s greatest assets, stating that empowering creatives and connecting cultures could pave the way for national development.
Lagos State’s performance at NAFEST 2024 was indeed impressive, with the state clinching third position overall out of 28 participating states. The Minister of Arts, Culture, Tourism, and Creative Economy, Barrister Hannatu Musawa, pledged to promote Nigerian arts and culture globally, create job opportunities for creative talents, and preserve Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage.
As the curtains closed on NAFEST 2024, Lagos State’s achievements served as a testament to the state’s vibrant cultural scene and its commitment to promoting arts and culture.
