Lagos, Nigeria – The Lagos State Council for Arts and Culture (LSCAC) has launched the Masterclass Art Exhibition (Series 1), themed “Empowering Future Legacies”, at the John Randle Centre for Yoruba Culture and History, Lagos Island.
The exhibition, curated by Deputy Director Mr. Ayoola Mudasiru, showcases a collection of artworks by distinguished mentors and their protégés, celebrating intergenerational exchange, artistic excellence, and cultural innovation.
The exhibition features works by renowned mentors, including Prof. Bruce Onobrakpeya, Prof. Moyo Okediji, and Chief Muraina Oyelami, among others, alongside their protégés, including Ufuoma Onobrakpeya, Rasheed Amodu, and Ayoola Mudasiru.
The exhibition was inaugurated with high praise from dignitaries and cultural stakeholders. Dr. (Mrs.) Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, First Lady of Lagos State, represented by Mrs. Modupe Aregbe, described the initiative as “an inspiring platform for nurturing creativity and preserving heritage.”
Mr. Ibrahim Babajide Obanikoro, Special Adviser, Parastatal Monitoring Office, emphasized the significance of art, stating that “art is not only a visual delight but the heartbeat of collective memory and a testament to resilience.” He lauded the dynamic exchange between masters and protégés as a vibrant dialogue shaping the future of Nigerian art.
Mr. Idowu Johnson, CEO of LSCAC, described the exhibition as “a vibrant celebration of artistic excellence, mentorship, and cultural heritage.” He reiterated the Council’s dedication to fostering creativity and cultural pride, stating that the Masterclass Art Exhibition is envisioned as a continuous platform to bridge generations of artists, foster collaboration, and promote creativity as a catalyst for tourism, cultural enrichment, and socio-economic development in Lagos State.
The exhibition remains open to the public daily from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM until September 25, 2025.
