The Lagos State Police Command has condemned the conduct of a Police Inspector involved in an altercation with an elderly woman , as captured in a viral video.
Consequently, the Command said it had commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident, which occurred in the Alagbado area of Lagos.
A video of the policeman identified as Ayinde M.O and the elderly woman struggling for the keys of the Sienna vehicle driven by the latter went viral on social media.
In the one-minute, 58-second video, the elderly woman, clad in a white lace gown, was sighted on the driver’s seat, while the policeman was seen in the passenger’s seat trying to forcefully collect the key from the keyhole. However, his attempt was vehemently resisted by the woman.

During the process, the policeman was seen adjusting the gear while a voice in the background was heard shouting in Yoruba dialect , alleging that the cause of the scuffle was a N70,000 request.

In the ensuing struggle, the elderly woman instructed a young man to record the process, while a male voice was heard saying, “He was about to shoot my mummy; he is beating my mummy.”
Another voice was also heard requesting the car keys from the Policeman who succeeded in retrieving it from the woman.
Commenting on the video, SP Benjamin Hundenyin, spokesman for the Lagos State Police Command, explained that “preliminary investigation reveals that the incident took place in Alagbado area of Lagos State in the first week of September 2024.
“ The Police Inspector and his supervising DSP have been brought in for questioning, while the Complaint Response Unit has established contact with the woman in the video.
The Lagos State Police Command totally condemns the unprofessional conduct of the Inspector, as it does not represent the ethics and operational standards of the Nigeria Police Force. The Command assures Lagosians that the investigation will be swift, thorough, and conclusive, while ensuring that the officers are disciplined accordingly and members of the public are updated.
