Kwara State Revenue Chair advocates Computer-Based Testing in Schools

The Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Internal Revenue Service (KW-IRS), Mrs. Shade Omoniyi, has emphasized the importance of using Computer-Based Testing (CBT) for secondary school pupils in the state to enhance their skills.

Mrs. Omoniyi made this statement at the grand finale of the 2024 Annual Tax Club Quiz Competition, held in Ilorin on Thursday, where Government Day Secondary School Gaa Akanbi, Ilorin, emerged victorious. She highlighted the incorporation of Computer-Based Testing during the preliminary stages of the competition, describing it as a means of integrating technology to enhance the event and improve students’ skills.

The revenue chair also praised the state government for its investments in public education and encouraged students to remain committed and focused on their pursuits.

Governor Abdurahman Abdulrazaq, who attended the event, commended the initiative, aligning the competition with the government’s commitment to investing in education. He underscored the significance of educating youths about the fundamentals of taxation to ensure future compliance and understanding.

According to the governor, it is essential to teach young people about the basics of tax payment.

For her part, Funmilayo Oguntunbi, the Convener of the Quiz Competition and Head of the Tax Club Advocacy Committee (TACAC), explained that 154 schools initially registered online in June. Following a rigorous selection process, 12 schools qualified for the semi-finals, ultimately narrowing down to six for the grand finale in October.

Government Day Secondary School Gaa Akanbi, Ilorin, outperformed five other schools in the grand finale, securing a total of fourteen points. Competing schools included Anglican Boys Academy Oro, Eucharistic Heart of Jesus Model College, Government Secondary School Lafiaji, Kwara State College of Education Model Secondary School Oro, and Shepherd Secondary School Lafiaji.
