The Katsina State Government and the state’s Joint Public Service Negotiation Council have reached an agreement to implement the N70,000 national minimum wage and consequential salary adjustments for all state, local government, and local education authority workers with effect from December 2024.

The agreement was signed late night Friday by the state government negotiation team led by the Secretary to the Government of the State, Barrister Abdullahi Garba Faskari, and the state’s Joint Public Service Negotiation Council led by the Chairman, Nigerian Labour Congress, Dr. Hussaini Hamisu.

Briefing journalists shortly after the meeting, Faskari expressed gratitude to the organised labour for their maturity, cooperation and understanding during the negotiations. He also acknowledged the hard work and dedication of the negotiation committee members.

Faskari attributed the successful outcome of the negotiations to the support of the Katsina Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda. He expressed hope that the agreement would contribute to the overall development of the state.

Similarly, the Katsina NLC Chairman, Dr. Hussaini Hamisu, expressed satisfaction with the agreement reached on the implementation of the N70,000 national minimum wage.

While commending the state government’s negotiation team for their patience and tolerance throughout the process, the NLC Chairman stated that the agreement was reached after several rounds of discussions.

Hamisu assured workers in the state that the organised labour had worked tirelessly to ensure their interests were protected. He further assured that the union would continue to work with the government to ensure its smooth implementation.
