Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani has reversed a decision made by his predecessor, Nasir El-Rufai, by returning two plots of land to the family of late Head of State General Sani Abacha.
The lands, located in Kaduna metropolitan area, were revoked and seized by El-Rufai’s administration two years ago.
The two plots of land, measuring 2284m2 and 3705m2, are situated at No. 9 Abakpa GRA and No. 1 Degel Road, Ungwan Rimi, GRA, respectively.
According to Reuben Atabo, the Abacha family’s lawyer, the Right of Occupancy (RO) for the lands was revoked in 2022, with the Abacha family’s name listed as number 34 on the published list.

Atabo had approached the High Court of Justice of Kaduna State to challenge the revocation, citing embarrassment to the Abacha family name and other claims.
However, Governor Sani has now reinstated the titles to the lands, subject to the payment of outstanding fees on ground rent.
In a letter dated December 10, 2024, addressed to Mohammed Sani Abacha, the Kaduna Geographic Information Service (KADGIS) stated: “Letter of reinstatement of title covered by file no. KDL/01183 property properly described as no. 9 Abakpa GRA, Kaduna State…
His Excellency, the governor of Kaduna State has in the powers conferred on him under the Land Use Act 1978, reinstate the aforementioned title… Subject to strict condition of settling all outstanding fees and charges.”
In another letter dated December 10, 2024, KADGIS stated: “Letter of reinstatement of title covered by file No. KDL/20580 over a piece of land along Degel Road, Unguwan Rimi GRA, Kaduna…
