Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government, in Lagos State, Mr Wasiu Adesina, on Friday flagged off the construction of a 320-metre drainage system at Tayo Mohammed Street, in the locality.

The chairman also flagged off the placing of interlocking paving stones at Sabo market, scheduled to be completed in 12 weeks

It is to be complemented with installation of street lights to illuminate the area.

Adesina said that the projects became necessary to alleviate the sufferings of residents, have easy access to the main road, mitigate erosion and curtail insecurity in the community area.

“Today, we are flagging off construction of a two-side drainage system and will commence the surfacing immediately, with street lights.

“We have indentified the link roads in all areas of Ikorodu LGA, starting from Itundegun, Ajino, Itunmoja and other axes.

“The local government is going to embark on construction of the two side drainage, with street lights to make the communities decent,” he said.

The council boss appealed to the residents to cooperate with the contractors for smooth and effective service delivery, to meet up with the time specified for completion of the projects.

He said that the projects would be handed over to community leaders and the Community Development Association(CDA) for them to take ownership..

This, according to him, will help to ensure proper maintenance, so that it would last long.

The chairman said the council was working out arrangements with some Tech companies to digitalise the operations of the cemetery in the local government.

He said that this would enable residents to access information about their dead ones online.

Adesina said there was a plan to also train 100 women on fashion designing, and the best 20 of the participants would be empowered with starting grants before his administration winds down.

He hailed President Bola Tinubu on the LG autonomy and commended Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu for giving them the free hand to embark on capital projects for residents to enjoy dividends of democracy.

The chairman advised residents to shun any form of violence and distance themselves from any protest.

He said that the current administration was on track, puting the country on the right path.

“We should all support the Renewed Hope Agenda of the federal government and not join any group of people to protest.”

Also speaking, Kazeem Olokunola, the community leader, thanked the council chairman for bringing such project to their domain.

He said that it would alleviate the sufferings of residents plying the road.

Olokunola assured the chairman of his support and urged others interested in contesting for the position to emulate his leadership style.

“I thank the chairman for addressing our challenges in our community in fulfillment of his campaign promises,” he said.

Present at the ceremony were: traditional leaders and chieftains of All Progressives Congress.
