The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) raided the Abuja residence of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, on Thursday, February 20, 2026, as part of an ongoing investigation into his eight-year tenure as governor.
According to his Media Adviser, Muyiwa Adekeye, ICPC operatives arrived at El-Rufai’s Aso Drive residence around 2 p.m. and conducted a thorough search of the premises. “The Aso Drive residence of Malam Nasir elrufai was today searched by the ICPC,” Adekeye tweeted.
El-Rufai’s lawyer, Ubong Akpan, condemned the search, describing it as “unlawful and a clear violation of legal procedures and fundamental rights”. Akpan did not indicate whether the legal team would challenge the move in court or disclose items removed during the operation.
The ICPC had confirmed El-Rufai’s detention on Wednesday, stating he was being held in connection with an ongoing investigation. This development marks another turn in the multi-agency scrutiny of El-Rufai’s administration, with both ICPC and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) probing alleged financial improprieties.
