A wave of outrage has swept through Taraba State after a 17-year-old girl, Iwasen Terhemba, was brutally attacked and disfigured by a housewife, Ramatu Abbas, over suspicions of her husband’s alleged interest in the teenager.
The shocking incident, which occurred in Donga town, left the teenager’s face scarred and her life forever changed. According to reports, Ramatu’s husband had been making unwanted advances towards Iwasen, who lives with her guardian, Jemila Wanga, but she had consistently rejected him.
Enraged by her rejection, Ramatu took matters into her own hands, storming the guardian’s residence and using a razor to slash the teenager’s face.
The Taraba State Police Command has confirmed the incident and assured that justice is underway. “The suspect is in custody, and the victim is receiving treatment. The case will soon be charged to court,” said police spokesman, Victor Mshelizah.
Residents are calling for swift and severe punishment for Ramatu, hoping it will serve as a lesson to others. “This is unacceptable. She should face the full force of the law,” said one resident.
The attack has left many questioning how far some people will go in the name of jealousy and possessiveness.
