    Gunshots as police arrest Osun park management chair over alleged murder

    The Osun State police command has arrested the Chairman, Osun State Transport Management System, OSTMS, Nurudeen Wakili, popularly known as Alowonle over alleged  murder among other offences.

    It was gathered that operatives of the Anti-kidnapping squad led by its commander, Moses Lohor arrested Alowonle on Monday night in the state capital, after a petition of brutal attack on one Alhaji Alowonle, but Nurudeen’s gang attacked the team and rescued the suspect after gun duel.

    The suspects was also shot by the police team while allegedly trying to escape with handcuffs the second time and he is presently at a teaching hospital receiving treatment.

    According to security sources, the team re-enforced and trail the suspect to Oke-Baale area of the state capital, where he was re-arrested and taken back to where west bye-pass where he was first arrested and conducted a search on his unmarked Toyota Highlander Jeep.

    “A Baretta pistol, live ammunition were found in his car. Hence, his car, nine members of his gang and a Toyota Hiace were also taken into custody”, the police source.

    Confirming the incident on Tuesday, acting police spokesperson, Yemi Alade-Giwa said the the park chairman engaged operatives of the Anti-kidnapping squad in gun battle when they tried to arrest him.

    He added that the suspect was maimed while trying to run away again after his vehicle was searched and pistol was found in it.

    His words, “He engaged out operatives in gun battle when they wanted to arrest him. He was arrested in connection with unlawful possessing of firearm, attempted murder, conspiracy, murder and malicious damage

    “None of our officer sustain any injury. The suspect escaped, after some of his boys attacked the team. The team remobilize and strategize and apprehended him again. They search his vehicle in his presence and found some life ammunition

    “When he attempted to run away again after searching his car, he was mamed and rushed him to the hospital for treatment, he was arrested alongside four of his boys

    However, the Secretary OSTMS in the State, Mukaila Popoola, in a statement made available to newsmen on Tuesday, disclosee that the Chairman was shot in police custody.

    He said Nurudeen was arrested over domestic issue over domestic issues and was taken to the police custody.

    It reads further “Our chairman was shot at police custody under circumstances that call for thorough investigations.

    “We call on our members not to take laws into their hands. We must maintain peace across the parks while we take the matter up with the appropriate authorities”.
