Gunmen kill vigilante, abduct six in Kano community

Gunmen suspected to be bandits have reportedly killed a vigilante and abducted six persons near Goron Dutse in Shanono Local Government Area of Kano State.

Confirming the development, the Chairman, Faruruwa community and environs security committee in Shanono LGA, Yahaya Bagobiri said the gunmen stormed the area on Saturday were they killed the vigilante and injured three others out of which two were treated and discharged.

Bagobiri said the bandits during the nightfall attack also carted away over 40 cattles of the villagers.

According to him, “on Saturday night, around 11pm, the bandits invaded near Goron Dutse. We saw the motorcycles of the bandits but don’t know whether they were killed. They returned this morning maybe to pick up the corpses of their colleagues or to retrieve the motorcycles.

“The bandits kidnapped six. They rustled over 40 cattles. They killed one vigilante, one is currently hospitalized while two who were shot in their legs have been treated,” Bagobiri said.

In a swift reaction, the 3 brigade, Nigeria Army said troops of Joint Task Force Faruruwa operating from FOB Yankwada foiled an attack at Ungwan Dogo/Ungwan Tudu after a fierce battle, forcing the bandits to withdraw.

The command’s spokesperson, Babatunde Zubairu said during the operation the troops also rescued a 38-year-old kidnap victim, Rabiu Alhaji Halilu, who had sustained a gunshot wound on the leg and was evacuated to the JTF Faruruwa Medical Centre for treatment.

In his words, “In the early hours of 28 December 2025, at about 01:00 AM, troops of Joint Task Force Faruruwa operating from FOB Yankwada received a tip-off about the movement of armed bandits from Daurawa, Kira, Katsina State towards the Kano axis. Acting swiftly, a fighting patrol was mobilized to the fringe of the Kano/Katsina border. At Ungwan Dogo/Ungwan Tudu, own troops encountered the armed bandits and engaged them in a fierce exchange, forcing the bandits to withdraw in disarray towards Matazu LGA of Katsina State.

“During the operation, one kidnap victim, Rabiu Alhaji Halilu, 38, was rescued. Halilu had sustained a gunshot wound on the leg and was evacuated to the JTF Faruruwa Medical Centre for treatment.

“Similarly, 2 Motorcycles abandoned by fleeing bandits were recovered and an undisclosed number of cattle were also recovered. The troops remain on high alert as operations continue to secure the area,” the command’s spokesperson, Babatunde Zubairu however stated.
