Gunmen kill Sokoto monarch after collecting N60m, six motorcycles as ransome

The District head of Gatawa, in Sabin Birni local government Sokoto state, Alhaji Isa Mohammed Bawa who was recently abducted by suspected Gunmen alongside his son has been killed by his abductors.

It was gathered that the District head died after severe torture and beating by the gunmen.

The abductors of the traditional ruler who earlier demanded N900 million later reduced the ransome to N500 million.  The amount could not be raised by his family or the state government before his untimely death in the hands of his captors on Wednesday.

A member of the Sokoto state House of Assembly Hon aminu Almustapha Boza representing Sabon Birni constituency  confirmed the tragic development.

Boza while speaking to our correspondent, they suspected a foul play since when the abductors of the District head reduced the Ransome to 60 million naira and 6 motorcycles which was immediately made available to them, just to hear that they killed him after collection of the Ransome.

However, the suspected gunmen released his son who was abducted alongside with his father on that fateful date.

The son was released after collection of the N60 million and 6 motorcycles by the suspected gunmen on Wednesday, and his currently being hospitalized in Sabon Birni general Hospital.

It could be recalled, last week Tuesday , abductors of the traditional ruler released a video clip in which the late Traditional ruler was seen pleading to the Sokoto state government and Sultanate council to help secure his release from captivity.

The late Sokoto.Monarch was attacked and kidnapped along Sokoto – Sabon Birni road on 29th July after attending a meeting of traditional rulers in Sokoto , the state capital.

Meanwhile, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has strongly condemned the tragic incidence, adding that it was
a heinous act that will not go unpunished.
President Tinubu assures Nigerians that his administration is aggressively removing threats to ensure the security of the nation and that these desperate acts of terror will be effectively countered.

Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko (Sarkin Yamman Sokoto), Sokoto state APC leader described the development as shocking and devastating.

The senator who represents Sokoto North Senatorial District, while condoling the family and entire people of Sabon Birni local government over the shocking news, described it as barbaric and a cowardly act of banditry which must not go unpunished

He described the deceased as a leader with a good heart for his subjects and also a peace-loving gentleman, adding that he he would continue to be remembered for his good deeds.
