Muslim Media Watch Group of Nigeria, MMWG, has called on the Centre for Islamic Studies, Usmanu Dan Fodiyo University, Sokoto to smash the cartel allegedly hijacking the International Qur’an Memorization Competition meant for young Qur’an memorizers selected by the institution to participate in the international contests.
National Coordinator of the group, Alhaji Ibrahim Abdullahi made the call in a statement issued on Monday in Birnin-Kebbi, the Kebbi State capital on the on-going National Qur’an Memorization Competition in the state and made available to our correspondent in Abuja.

Abdullahi, who is an executive member of Kwara State Committee on Qur’an Memorization, noted with concern the recent development, whereby winners of the national competition were being side-tracked by cartels of people who went through the backdoors to register illegal participants for the international competitions across Islamic countries for personal gains.
He, therefore, called on affected Arab and Islamic countries organising the international competitions and their Embassies in Nigeria to desist from recognising unqualified candidates sponsored by the cartels, but to recognise only candidates selected by the Centre for Islamic Studies, Usman Dan Fodiyo University, Sokoto which is the only authorised body for national competition in Nigeria.
The coordinator commended the National Musabaqah Foundation under the able leadership of Professor Saddiyah Umar Bello of the Usmanu Dan Fodiyo University, Sokoto for the success achieved in the promotion of arts and science of Qur’an memorisation in Nigeria.
He also called for proper rotational process of hosting the National Qur’an Recitation Competition across all states in Nigeria with Federal Ministry of Education sponsoring the contest for moral, spiritual and educational development of our youths in the country.
