Gov Fubara unveils plot to attack newly sworn-in council chairmen

    Published on

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has exposed an alleged plot by detractors to unleash violence on the newly sworn-in local government chairmen.

The governor revealed that his detractors are mobilizing 20 people per political unit to attack the chairmen when they report to their various council secretariats to resume duties.

In a ceremony held at the Executive Chambers of Government House in Port Harcourt on Sunday, Governor Fubara sworn in 23 chairmen who emerged from the just-concluded Rivers State Local Government election. He charged the newly sworn-in chairmen to remain connected with the people in their council areas and emulate his approach to peace.
Fubara advised the chairmen not to confront the situation or fight anybody if attacked, emphasizing the importance of maintaining peace in the state. He also warned against greed and the urge to amass wealth indiscreetly.
The governor expressed gratitude to God and appreciated President Bola Tinubu for his democratic approach. He also acknowledged the support of Rivers people in the fight to salvage the Local Government system in the state.
Notably, Governor of Bauchi State, Senator Bala Mohammed, Chairman of the Governor’s Forum of PDP, attended the ceremony. Fubara reaffirmed his membership in the PDP.
With the local government council election over, Governor Fubara emphasized that the state has entered a season of transformation where democracy will thrive, and the people will witness delivery of democratic dividends.
The governor’s remarks come after an attempt was made to invade the Headquarters of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) three days before Election Day. Fubara assured the Federal Government that his administration will not deploy undemocratic ways to confront or fight anybody, prioritizing the maintenance of law and order in the state.
