Gov Eno searches for oil expert to drive economic prosperity

Published on

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has announced a search for a qualified oil and gas expert to lead the state’s quest for acquiring a marginal oil field.

This move is aimed at driving economic prosperity in the state.

Speaking at the three-day Ministerial Briefing and End of Year Review, Eno stated that the state has already registered a company platform, which the intended expert will manage to push for the marginal field acquisition.

Akwa Ibom indigenes will have the right of first refusal to compete for the top job, but the governor emphasized that he won’t hesitate to look beyond the state if a capable candidate is not found.

Eno explained that the state has marginal fields in its backyard, and it’s time for Akwa Ibom to get involved.

He cited examples of Akwa Ibom sons holding key positions in the oil and gas sector, including the Chairman of the Solid Mineral Exploration Committee and a Minister in the oil and gas sector.

The terms of engagement for the intended expert include a 12-month contract, during which they are expected to deliver results.

Eno emphasized that the appointment is not political and that the state needs someone with the capability to drive the acquisition of the marginal field.

The governor also drew comparisons with Lagos State, which has its own oil company, Eko Oil. He argued that Akwa Ibom, with its comparative advantage of having marginal fields across its soil, should be more concerned about directly investing in owning oil fields.
