Kwara State governor, Malam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has urged the traditional rulers in the state to continue to ensure peace and harmony among their people towards meaningful progress and development.
The governor gave the charge weekend in Omupo, Ifelodun Local Government Area of the state during the official commissioning of the new Aganju Olomu of Omupo, Oba-Igba festival and award of chieftaincy titles to prominent sons and daughter of the community.
Governor AbdulRazaq, who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Alhaji Mahe AbdulKadir, commended the Olomu of Omupo, Oba Muhammed-Yakub Adebayo Buari II for ensuring social and economic growth and development of the community as leader of his people by embarking on self-help projects.

He said that the cultural festival underscores the commitment of the people and the community to their traditions while embracing modernity for the benefit of the coming generations.
The governor said the celebration of the Oba-Igba festival is part of the testimony to our rich cultural heritage in the state.
He charged traditional rulers to continue to ensure peaceful and harmonious relationships among their various subjects for a meaningful growth and development across the state.
Earlier, Oba Buari said the construction of the structure by the people of Omupo came from strong conviction that Kabiyesi and other traditional rulers have a critical role to play in facilitating good governance.
The traditional ruler noted that the traditional rulers being close to the people are in vantage position to ensure that government meet the needs of the people and the people reciprocate by trusting the government and collaborating to achieve the common goals.
He listed the common goals to include high standard of living, peace, security, growth and development and therefore called for greater roles, responsibilities and better support with the Royal fathers.
Also, in his address of welcome the National President of the Omupo Descendants Union, Dr. Monisoye Afolabi said the celebration of Oba-Igba made the Omupo community special, adding the community through the ODU has decided to continue to improve on the celebration of the festival and attract more indigenes and non-indigenes yearly and lift the festival to international standards.
He urged all indigenes of Omupo to join hands and contribute their quotas to the development of the community.
Afolabi appealed to the state governor to upgrade the Olomu of Omupo to a First Class level, saying “the House of Olomu Aperan deserves it.”
Also, the chairman organising committee, Dr. Steve Olarinoye said this year festival was very unique with the introduction of games to add colour to the celebration among youths.
Highpoints of the occasion include commissioning of new palace, traditional and cultural dances, award of chieftaincy titles to Elder Kayode Odeyemi as Olu Omo, Alhaja Rafat Adejumoke Hassan as Iyalode and Alhaji Abubakar Alabi as the Asiwaju of Omupo.
