Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has assured that he will implement the recommendations of the report submitted by the Judicial Commission of Inquiry into the arson, killings, and destruction of property at some local government council headquarters on October 7, 2024.

The governor made this declaration when the seven-member commission, led by Chairman Justice Ibiwengi Roseline Minakiri, submitted their report to him at Government House in Port Harcourt.

Fubara emphasized that his administration will not tolerate violence in the state, describing it as unprofitable and unproductive.

The governor recalled that a group of persons had previously engaged in destructive tendencies, burning down court buildings before 2014, and have now extended their violence to local government councils.

He wondered why individuals would destroy structures they had invested in building, citing the importance of managing resources effectively.

Fubara vowed to put an end to the violence, stating that “politics is a business of interest” and that there are no permanent friends or enemies.

He thanked the commission members for their bold and focused work, despite facing physical and legal threats.

The report, presented in four volumes, includes memoranda, exhibits, records of proceedings, and findings ².

The commission’s chairman, Justice Minakiri, urged Fubara to implement the recommendations to ensure lasting peace in the state.
