    Former House of Reps member kidnapped, Police escort killed

    Hon. Dr. Joseph Haruna Kigbu, a former member of the House of Representatives, was abducted yesterday evening while traveling to Jos.

    The incident occurred around 6:00 pm between Nunku, Akwanga Local Government, Nasarawa State, and Gwantu, Sanga Local Government, Kaduna State.

    Eyewitnesses reported that bandits opened fire on the vehicle, killing the police escort attached to Dr. Kigbu. The officer’s bravery was evident as he attempted to resist the kidnappers, but unfortunately, he succumbed to the heavy gunfire.

    This area has witnessed a surge in criminal activities in recent times, according to local residents. Despite efforts to reach the state police command for confirmation, phone calls remained unanswered.

    The kidnapping of Dr. Kigbu is yet another sad incidence about the escalating insecurity in the region.

    Authorities are urged to intensify efforts to ensure the safe release of the former lawmaker and bring perpetrators to justice.
