Published on

The death toll from devastating floods in Nigeria since August 16 has risen to 49, with at least 470 people injured, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) reported on Monday.

The northern states of Jigawa, Adamawa, and Taraba have been hit hardest by the floods following days of intense rainfall, according to NEMA’s updated flood dashboard.

The agency reported that 43,519 people have been displaced due to the floods.

Ezekiel Manzo, a NEMA spokesperson, told Anadolu Agency that the organization is closely monitoring the situation as floodwaters continue to rise across the country.

“NEMA monitoring teams are assessing the flood situations, especially after the alert regarding the rise in water levels,” Manzo said.

The floods have caused widespread devastation across West and Central Africa, with Nigeria, Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger, and Chad all severely affected. Hundreds have been killed, and thousands have been displaced across the region. — Agencies
