A renewed land war between the people of Umuobor, Akaeze, and Ogwor, Ishiagu, in Ivo local government area of Ebonyi State, has resulted in the deaths of at least five persons.
Two decomposing bodies were also recovered and handed over to the military on peacekeeping duty in the area.
The land dispute, which has been ongoing for decades, centers around a fertile land known as Elueke.
The conflict has claimed many lives and properties, with the situation escalating four months ago.

A source revealed that the recent guerilla war-style killings resulted in the loss of five lives. “Two days ago, a total of five persons were killed in Umobor Akaeze.
Extra two bodies were recovered and taken to the army checkpoint in Akaeze,” the source said.
The source also criticized the state government’s response to the crisis, stating, “The state government’s silence and remote actions have continued to achieve more gains with more killings, maiming, and abduction of innocent people of Akaeze and Ishiagu communities, and even non-Ebonyi persons.”
The Ebonyi State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Joshua Ukandu, confirmed the land crisis in the area but stated that he had not received reports on the recent killings from the Ivo police division.
