Former Deputy Minority Whip of the House of Representatives, Hon. Adesegun AbdelMajid Adekoya, has urged the residents of Ogun State to ensure they participate in the on-going voters registration exercise by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

This is just as he also appealed to voters that have hitherto registered to go and verify that their particulars are accurate and up-to-date.

Speaking at a community gathering last weekend, Hon Adekoya emphasized the critical role that each vote plays in shaping the future of the nation.

With the INEC having commenced nationwide voter registration on August 25, 2025, the former lawmaker, who represented Ijebu North/Ijebu-East/Ogun Waterside Federal Constituency, reminded the audience of their civic duty to participate in the electoral process.

“Your vote is not just a piece of paper; it is your voice, your right, and your power. It is essential that you exercise this right and ensure that your voter registration reflects your current status,” he said.

Adekoya stressed the importance of correcting any discrepancies in permanent voter cards, urging attendees to verify their information and take necessary actions to rectify any issues that may hinder them from voting in upcoming elections.

“It is our collective responsibility to safeguard our democracy. We must ensure that every citizen has the opportunity to voice their opinions through their votes,” he added, calling on community leaders to mobilize their members for this crucial task.

The philanthropic ex-lawmaker also encouraged the youth in Nigeria to become actively involved in the political process.

“The future belongs to you. It is vital that you engage in the democratic process, not just by voting but by holding your leaders accountable,” he stated, urging them to take initiative in educating their peers about the importance of voter registration.

“We can only effect change if we participate in the process. Your vote is your power, and it matters,” he concluded, leaving the audience inspired to take immediate action.

The politician, who is also won an award as the Best Commissioner in Nigeria several years ago, is the promoter of PAM Foundation, a non-governmental organisation, NGO involved in uplifting women, youths and community development.
