The Chairman of Coker–Aguda Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon. Ogidan Azeez, has rolled out a special empowerment programme for senior citizens as part of the 2025 Elderly Citizens Assistance Scheme (ECAS), an initiative implemented simultaneously across the Lagos Central Senatorial District.

The ECAS programme, sponsored by the Senator representing Lagos Central, Senator Wasiu Sanni Eshinlokun, aims to recognise and support elderly citizens, whom the organisers described as custodians of wisdom, heritage, and the moral compass that guides society.

Speaking at the Coker–Aguda event, Senator Eshinlokun—represented by Mrs. Muibat Ogidan, wife of the LCDA chairman—reaffirmed the importance of prioritising the welfare of senior citizens.
According to her, “Our ambition for national greatness can only be fully realized when we cherish, care for, and continuously honour our elders, who remain the living link to our history and values.”
Across the Lagos Central Senatorial District, no fewer than 3,000 elderly residents benefited from the ECAS initiative. Each beneficiary received empowerment support ranging from ₦20,000 cash to assorted food items.

In Coker–Aguda LCDA, Hon. Ogidan further expanded the gesture by providing an additional empowerment package to 100 more senior citizens within the council area. The chairman said the extension was necessary to ensure that more elderly residents felt the impact of the programme.
He noted that the initiative aligns with his administration’s commitment to inclusive governance and social support for vulnerable groups.

“Our elders deserve dignity, care, and consistent support,” Ogidan said. “They have contributed immensely to the growth of our communities, and it is only right that we continue to stand by them in their later years.”
Beneficiaries expressed gratitude to both Senator Eshinlokun and Hon. Ogidan for what they described as a timely and thoughtful intervention, especially in the face of rising economic pressures.
The empowerment programme is expected to continue as part of broader efforts to strengthen social welfare across Lagos Central.
