Defence minister warns Amaechi over ‘reckless’ statements”

Published on

Nigeria’s Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Muhammed Matawalle, has strongly condemned recent statements made by former Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi, accusing him of inciting violence and unrest among Nigerians.

Matawalle issued a stern warning to Amaechi, urging him to refrain from making inflammatory remarks that threaten national peace and stability. “It is both reckless and irresponsible for a former public servant of Amaechi’s standing to incite Nigerians against their own government,” Matawalle said.
He expressed deep concern over the dangers posed by such rhetoric, emphasizing that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is working tirelessly to address Nigeria’s challenges through various reforms.
“At a time when President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is working tirelessly to address the challenges facing the nation through various reforms that are yielding results, it is absurd, preposterous, and shameful for anyone to exploit the genuine situation of our citizens for selfish political gain.”
The Minister reiterated the President’s commitment to safeguarding peace and security, warning that attempts to destabilize the country through incitement will not be tolerated. “We will not allow anyone to fuel violence or manipulate the prevailing situation of our people. Let this serve as a final warning to Amaechi and his cohorts.”

Matawalle also cautioned Amaechi against casting aspersions on the government’s genuine intentions, emphasizing that he should join hands with the government to move the country forward instead of making “myopic assertions.” “It is expected that Amaechi joins hands with the Government to move the country forward, rather he chose to stay aside with myopic assertions.”
A statement from the Ministry of Defence spokesperson, Henshaw Ogubike, noted that Matawalle “expressed deep concern over the dangers posed by such rhetoric” and urged Amaechi to desist from making inflammatory remarks.
This development comes amid recent controversies surrounding Amaechi’s statements, including his call for Nigerians to protest against politicians. However, some groups have condemned attacks on Amaechi, urging peaceful engagement.
