The Defence Headquarters has rejected a claim made by Asari Dokubo, a former Niger Delta militant, that he has the capability to bring down military aircraft.

Dokubo made the statement in a viral video, alleging that security agencies were flying aircraft over his house in Rivers State during the recent local government election.
Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operation, described Dokubo’s claim as “laughable” and stated that he lacks the capability to take on the military.
“We have other security agencies with aircraft and helicopters for national security duties,” Buba said. “In a democracy, anyone can say what they want, but it’s up to the relevant agencies to handle it.”
Regarding reports of 13 repentant Boko Haram terrorists escaping from a rehabilitation camp with rifles, Buba clarified that the military is not responsible for the Deradicalization/DRRR program. “Our job is to neutralize terrorists and hand them over to authorities,” he explained.

In a separate development, Buba announced that Operation Fasan Yamma has yielded significant successes in the North West, with over 300 terrorist commanders taken out in the last quarter. He revealed that some wanted terrorist commanders are now seeking to surrender due to the operation’s impact.
This news comes on the heels of reports that six top Boko Haram commanders have surrendered to troops in the North East ¹ ². The Defence Headquarters’ efforts to combat terrorism and ensure national security continue to yield positive results.
