The devastating petrol tanker accident which occurred Saturday along the Dikko-Maje Minna road has left a trail of grief and destruction, claiming the lives of 86 people. The tragedy has also injured 55 others, with many still reeling from the shock.
“It’s a dark day for our state and our people,” said Abdullahi Baba Arah, Director General of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA). “We are doing everything we can to support the families of the victims and provide aid to those affected.”
The mass burial of the victims was conducted at the Dikko Primary Health Center premises, with 80 corpses laid to rest. Five other corpses were taken away by relatives for private burial, while one person died at the health center.

Arah praised the bravery and kindness of the volunteers who assisted in the mass burial, which took place between 5 pm and 12 am. “It was a difficult and emotional task, but we are grateful for the support and selflessness of our volunteers,” he said.
As the people of Niger State come to terms with this tragedy, they are reminded of the importance of safety and vigilance on the roads. The accident serves as a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of reckless driving and the need for urgent measures to prevent such tragedies in the future.
