Confusion as heavy security barricades Kano Emir’s palace

    Published on

KANO — Confusion erupted in the ancient city of Kano on Friday as heavy security operatives barricaded the entrance to the palace of the 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II.

At the time of filing this report, it was unclear why the police and Department of State Services (DSS) had barricaded the Emir’s palace.

Sources from the palace suggested that the action might be related to an attempt to prevent the Emir from accompanying his newly appointed Wamban Kano and District Head of Bichi, Munir Sanusi, to assume his official district post in Bichi.

Others speculated that it could be connected to the Emir’s planned meeting with economists regarding proposed tax reform bills.

As a result of this development, movement in and out of the palace was restricted.
