A high-ranking official of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and his driver have mysteriously disappeared while traveling on the Onitsha-Owerri highway, sparking widespread concern.

Eddy Megwa, Director of Information and Public Relations, briefed journalists on Wednesday in Abuja, confirming that Mr. Okun Christopher, the NYSC Akwa-Ibom State Coordinator, and his driver, Mr. Daniel Effiong Asibong, were last seen on Monday, July 29, 2024, while on their way to Uyo in Akwa-Ibom State.

According to him, their white official Hilux vehicle with registration number 27D31FG has also gone missing.

Despite efforts by authorities to locate them, their whereabouts remain unknown.

“The NYSC urges anyone with information to come forward and contact any of the 37 NYSC State Secretariats, Area Offices, the National Directorate Headquarters in Abuja, or the nearest police station or security agency,” Megwa pleaded.

Meanwhile, an investigation into the incident is ongoing. The disappearance of the NYSC officials has raised concerns about safety and security on highways across the country.
