Kayode Egbetokun has been removed as the Inspector-General of Police and replaced by AIG Tunji Disu, a senior police officer, has told TheReporterNg
Efforts to obtain an official reaction from the Force Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, was unsucessful but a source said, “it’s confirmed but official announcement would be made.
“AIG Tunji Disu is the new IGP. Confirmed,” he said
The news has sent shockwaves through the Force Headquarters, with at least eight Deputy Inspectors-General of Police expected to retire compulsorily.
Sources say the exit of Egbetokun, who was replaced by a junior officer, is the trigger for the major reshuffle. It’s customary for senior officers above the new IGP in rank to retire, making way for the new leadership to implement its agenda without obstruction.
The affected DIGs might include Yahaya Abubakar (Finance and Administration), Adebola Hamzat (Logistics and Supply), and Ben Nebolisa Okolo (Force Intelligence Department), among others.
A senior police officer explained, “This is a generational shift within the Force’s top command, with potential implications for internal stability and operational direction.”
