The 20 Medical Students of the University of Jos and University of Maiduguri recently kidnapped in Benue have regained their freedom.
Recall that last Thursday the 20 students were abducted by gunmen near Otukpo in Benue state on their way to attend the annual Federation of Catholic Medical and Dental Students, FECAMDS, Convention in Enugu State.
The news of their kidnap generated angry reactions from Nigerians across the country and the Inspector General of Police, IGP, Kayode Egbetokun immediately deployed tactical teams including helicopters and drones to comb the forests in Benue South to rescue the students.
It was gathered that the operation which included sister security agencies led by the Benue State Police Commissioner, Mr. Hassan Yabanet rescued the students Friday evening.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Superintendent, SP, Catherine Anene in a terse statement issued at about 11pm confirmed the rescue of the students.
The statement simply read, “Kidnap victims rescued. Details will be released tomorrow morning please.”
