Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service NIS, Kemi Nandap has dismantled all unauthorized checkpoints along Nigeria’s border posts.

Nandap, instead, ordered routine patrols to completely forestall dangerous and unauthorized elements from entering into the Country.

This was as the immigration boss also ordered the immediate submission of audit reports on manpower and logistics.

Service Spokesman, DCI Kenneth Udo in a statement issued Friday in Abuja said the CGIS gave the order at a meeting with Comptrollers of Border Commands and Commanders at the Service Headquarters.

According to him, the decision is aimed at ensuring efficient border security and migration management which are core mandates of the Immigration Service.

The CGIS charged them to be dedicated to duty and underscored the significance of border security stating that, Nigeria’s current realities require extra layers of security at the borders to prevent infiltration by criminal elements that could fuel crises in the country.

She instructed that henceforth, Comptrollers are to employ supervisory strategies, ensure timely report of major movements (entries and exits) and, professionally, handle sensitive intelligence requiring urgent attention with recommendations for enhanced border monitoring.

“These reports are to be submitted weekly through approved administrative channels”, the statement added.

The CGIS directed the “immediate submission of both Manpower and Logistics audit; and tasked Commanders on the need for a robust Inter-Agency collaboration for effective intelligence sharing”.

“Furthermore, she ordered the removal of unauthorised checkpoints and conduct routine patrols to completely forestall dangerous and unauthorized elements from entering the Country.

“The meeting provided the Service with ample opportunity to assess situations at the borders to gain useful insights that will guide policy and operational strategies towards enhanced National Security.

“The Comptroller General reiterated the Services commitment to the deployment of e-solutions, training and the welfare of officers in the field”, the statement added.
