In a shocking turn of events, the Labour Party’s governorship candidate in Bayelsa state, Engr. Udengs Eradiri, and his running mate, Commodore Benjamin Nathus (retd), have announced their resignation from the party.
This move has caused ripples in the party, which had Peter Obi as its presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections.
According to sources, most of the local government chairmen of the party in Bayelsa have also defected along with Eradiri and Nathus.
Eradiri, who was recently conferred a fellowship by the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), sent his resignation letter to the state chairman of the party in Yenagoa.

In the letter, Eradiri stated that he took the decision to enable him to pursue his political career on a platform that is ready and prepared to provide the kind of leadership that Bayelsa people deserve.
Eradiri expressed appreciation to members of the party who believed in his vision for a better Bayelsa.
Commodore Benjamin Nathus, the former deputy governorship candidate, also stated that the move was borne out of his decision to seek a platform committed to a leadership that would propel Bayelsa towards a brighter and more prosperous future.
When asked about their next political destination, Eradiri said they were undergoing serious consultations to decide on the next political platform that would enable them to provide service to the people.
