A high-profile delegation led by Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, visited Maiduguri on Monday to condole with Governor Babagana Zulum over the devastating flood that has displaced over two million people, killed several, and destroyed property worth billions of naira.
During the visit, Governor Mohammed announced a donation of N250 million, the highest so far, to support the flood victims. He also deployed a team from the Bauchi State Emergency Management Agency (BASEMA) to provide daily cooked food for over 10,000 displaced persons in various camps.
“We are here to commiserate with Your Excellency and the good people of Borno state over the monumental flood disaster,” Governor Mohammed said. “On behalf of the government and people of Bauchi state, we are donating N250 million to cushion the current hardship of the victims.
This is in addition to the BASEMA team I sent, who are currently feeding over 10,000 displaced victims on a daily basis.”
The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, led a delegation of Police Commissioners from the North East states and other ranking officers to assess the damaged police formations and barracks.
He pledged support for the rebuilding process and commended the Borno State Government for its efforts in tackling insecurity.
“We are here in Maiduguri to use one stone and kill two birds – first, to commiserate with you and the people of Borno over the flood disaster, and secondly to inform you that we are here to assist the Borno State Government in the rebuilding process,” IGP Egbetokun said.

“We want to assure you that the police under my leadership will complement efforts of the state government to rebuild these police formations and also assist the victims.
“Governor Zulum appreciated the Bauchi State Government’s gesture, describing it as the highest donation so far. “We are grateful for your support and solidarity during this challenging time,” he said.
The Governors of Kogi and Sokoto, Usman Ododo and Dr. Ahmad Aliyu, also paid sympathy visits to Maiduguri, extending their condolences to the people of Borno State.
Governor Zulum also thanked the Inspector General of Police for the police’s efforts in maintaining law and order during the rescue operations, particularly praising the Borno State Police Command under the leadership of CP Umar Yusuf for synergizing with the military and other stakeholders.
