A Diesel-laden tanker went up in flames after it collided with a commercial mini bus and two other trucks, also hitting a commercial, sparking an inferno on Apapa-Oshodi Expressway, Iyana-Isolo axis, Lagos, Sunday.
No fewer than three persons were injured in the incident.
The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service said it received a distress call at about 1:05 pm and promptly deployed firefighters from Isolo and Bolade stations to the scene.
On arrival, responders discovered that the tanker, conveying about 45,000 litres of diesel from Apapa inward Oshodi, had rammed into a commercial minibus before being struck by two articulated vehicles, a flatbed and a 40-foot container truck. The impact triggered a fire outbreak that engulfed the vehicles.
According to the Service, the inferno was swiftly brought under control, while mop-up operations were carried out to forestall further spread. The three injured victims were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention.
Meanwhile, efforts are ongoing to evacuate the burnt vehicles to restore free flow of traffic on the busy expressway.
Preliminary investigation, according to the Fire Service, linked the accident to the initial collision between the tanker and the minibus, which narrowly escaped casualties before the subsequent involvement of the trailers.
Confirming the incident, the Controller General of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Mrs. Margaret Adeseye, urged motorists to exercise caution and adhere strictly to road safety rules to avoid such disasters.
