APC Chieftain calls for Unity in Ede, criticizes inciting remarks by Gov’s Chief of Staff

Ede — A prominent chieftain of the All-Progressives Congress (APC) in Ede, Osun State, ‘Laolu Adabanija, has emphasized that no single family can claim the glory for the development of Edeland.

He called on community leaders to address the inciting statements made by Mr. Kazeem Akinleye, Chief of Staff to Governor Ademola Adeleke.

In a statement released on Thursday, Adabanija condemned Akinleye’s remarks, which threatened that any Ede indigene who failed to vote for Governor Adeleke in the 2026 governorship election should go into exile and relocate to the Republic of Benin, never to return to Ede.

Adabanija described the statement as uncalled for and unbecoming of Akinleye’s exalted office.

Adabanija further stated that such comments are not only a threat to individual rights but also undemocratic and detrimental to the harmonious coexistence and political maturity that Edeland has fostered over the years.

“It is critical to state that no single individual or family can lay sole claim to the destiny of our beloved land.

Democracy thrives on diversity of opinions, and the ability to express those opinions without fear of reprisal is sacrosanct,” he said.

He highlighted the significant contributions of various families to the development of Ede, including the Layonu family, Laoye family, and the Adeleke family, among others.

“Ede has a proud history of meaningful contributions to Osun development, championed by illustrious sons and daughters. This does not give the impetus for one to stampede the other,” Adabanija added.

Adabanija called on the Timi of Edeland, Baba Kabiyesi, to caution the Chief of Staff. “As the custodian of our culture and traditions, Kabiyesi must ensure that the sanctity of democratic values and respect for divergent views are upheld in our community,” he urged.

He concluded by stating that Ede deserves leaders who will unite, not divide; who will inspire, not intimidate.

Adabanija urged the Adeleke administration to clarify its stance and demonstrate that it truly represents all citizens, regardless of political affiliations.

“Let us preserve the legacy of peace, progress, and unity that Edeland has always stood for,” he added.

The call for unity and respect for democratic values comes at a crucial time as the community prepares for the upcoming governorship election in 2026.

Adabanija’s remarks underscore the importance of fostering a harmonious and inclusive political environment in Ede.
