Another auto crash claims 21 lives in Kano

KANO – Black Sunday in Kano as no fewer than 21 passengers were confirmed dead in an auto crash along Kano – Zaria road.

Confirming the incident, the Kano Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Mohammed Bature, said the fatal road traffic crash involved 24 passengers in two vehicles, DAF Trailer with registration number GWL 422 ZE, and a Toyota Hummer Bus with registration number KMC 171 YM.

In a statement by the corps spokesperson, Abdullahi Labaran, the Sector Commander said preliminary investigation conducted by the FRSC rescue team revealed that the crash was caused by route violation by the driver of the Toyota Hummer Bus, which led to a head-on collision with the trailer and ignited fire outbreak.

According to him, “The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Kano State Sector Command, regrets to report a fatal road traffic crash that occurred today, Sunday, 6th July 2025, at about 8:23 a.m. at Kasuwar Dogo, Dakatsalle, along the Zaria–Kano highway.

“The crash involved two vehicles: DAF Trailer with registration number GWL 422 ZE, and Toyota Hummer Bus with registration number KMC 171 YM.

“Preliminary investigation conducted by the FRSC rescue team revealed that the crash was caused by route violation by the driver of the Toyota Hummer Bus, which led to a head-on collision with the trailer. The impact resulted in a fire outbreak that engulfed the vehicles.

“Upon receiving the crash report, the Sector Commander, Corps Commander MB Bature, immediately contacted the Federal and State Fire Services to assist in extinguishing the fire, while the FRSC rescue team proceeded to the scene for rescue and evacuation operations.

“A total of 24 people were involved in the crash, out of which 21 persons lost their lives while 3 others sustained varying degrees of injuries.

“The burnt bodies of the deceased were evacuated and deposited at Nassarawa Hospital Mortuary, Kano, while the injured victims were taken to Garun Malam General Hospital for medical attention.

“The Sector Commander, CC MB Bature, expressed deep sorrow over the tragic incident and extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased. He also prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured and called on all road users to strictly obey traffic rules, particularly avoiding dangerous overtaking, route violations, and night travels.

“The Corps remains committed to ensuring the safety of all road users and urges the public to remain vigilant and law-abiding on the highways,” he said.

The Corps spokesperson however, said it operatives in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force has cleared the road obstruction caused by the accident and normal traffic flow has been restored.
