The Amalgamated Muslim Rights Concern (AMURIC) has called on a northern senator and a northern governor to break their silence regarding explosive allegations of sodomy and political persecution currently circulating in the media.
The demand followed a viral video featuring Alhaji Buhari Namalam, a prominent Sokoto businessman and key youth mobiliser for the northern Governor’s 2023 campaign.
In the footage, Namalam accused the Senator and governor of persecuting him.
In a statement signed by Mallam Ibrahim Agunbiade, the South-West based umbrella body emphasised that sodomy is a “grave matter” strictly condemned by the Qur’an.
AMURIC noted that the allegations are particularly damaging given Sokoto’s status as the spiritual heart of the Nigerian Muslim Ummah.
AMURIC alleged that it is twofold: if the allegations are politically motivated fabrications, the group demands that political actors cease using such “socially destructive” issues for gain. However, if the claims hold weight, they are calling for immediate action.
The statement concluded by highlighting the external challenges facing Nigerian Muslims, noting that internal scandals only serve to weaken the unity of the faith.
“AMURIC remains firm that Nigeria must not “slide into moral confusion” and that the sanctity of Islamic values must be defended at all costs.
“Nigeria must not be allowed to take root in practices that generate deep cultural divisions,” the statement read, reaffirming the organisation’s commitment to the moral fabric of the nation.
