Akpabio slams critics of Tax Reform Bills, says they lack understanding

The President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has taken a swipe at critics of the four tax reform bills presented by President Bola Tinubu to the National Assembly.

Akpabio described the critics as individuals who have not taken the time to understand the proposed reforms.

Akpabio made the remarks during the presentation of the 2025 national budget to a joint session of the National Assembly. He urged all Nigerians, especially those in public office, to engage with the vital reforms thoughtfully.

The four tax reform bills, namely the Joint Revenue Board of Nigeria (Establishment) Bill, 2024; Nigeria Revenue Service (Establishment) Bill, 2024; Nigeria Tax Administration Bill, 2024; and the Nigeria Tax Bill, 2024, represent a monumental shift in Nigeria’s fiscal landscape.

Akpabio commended President Tinubu’s groundbreaking tax reform initiative, saying it marks the first comprehensive tax reform since Nigeria’s independence.

He noted that the reforms will improve Nigeria’s revenue profile, create a more conducive business environment, and support sustainable development.
