Sweden As the new year approaches, Ambassador Collins Osazee Idahosa, Sweden-based Governor of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) Europe chapter, has expressed hope and optimism for the future. In a heartfelt message to Nigerian youths in the diaspora, he emphasized the importance of active participation in the council’s activities just as he announced the declaration of August 21st as National Youth Day in the Diaspora.

“I am honored to lead this vibrant community of young Nigerians who are making a difference in their various fields,” Ambassador Idahosa stated. He expressed his deepest gratitude to the President of the Youth Council of Nigeria, Sukubo Sara-Igbe Sukubo, and the entire NEC members for the opportunity to serve. “Your trust and confidence in me are a great responsibility, and I pledge to work tirelessly to promote the interests of Nigerian youths in the diaspora,” he added.

Ambassador Idahosa called on his fellow youths to work together to realize the dream of their founding fathers by creating a better future for themselves and future generations. “We owe it to ourselves, our families, and our nation to make a positive impact and be the change we want to see,” he urged.

Commending President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his efforts to empower youths, such as creating a Ministry of Youth and granting autonomy to local governments, Ambassador Idahosa highlighted the need for more action, particularly in the area of diaspora voting. “It is our right to participate in the electoral process, and we must continue to advocate for this right,” he emphasized.

He also urged the federal government to utilize the platform of NYCN to impact the youth in all areas of life. “We are one of the organizations that can help drive positive change in our nation, and we need your support to achieve this goal,” he stated.

Ambassador Idahosa expressed his gratitude to his team, the Europe executives, for their hard work and dedication to the NYCN. “Your efforts have not gone unnoticed, and I am proud to work alongside you,” he said.

Looking to the future, Ambassador Idahosa reminded everyone that their actions are not just for themselves but for future generations. “Every Nigerian has a relative abroad, and we must work together to create a better future for all,” he noted. He pledged to continue working tirelessly to promote the interests of Nigerian youths in the diaspora, advocating for their rights, supporting each other, and celebrating their achievements.

In a significant move, the NYCN Europe Chapter has declared August 21st of every year as National Youth Day in the Diaspora. This decision commemorates the formation of the National Youth Council of Nigeria on August 21, 1964. “By choosing this date, we are aligning ourselves with the vision and aspirations of our founding fathers, who established the NYCN to provide a platform for Nigerian youth to come together and make their voices heard,” Ambassador Idahosa explained.

To mark this special occasion, the NYCN Europe Chapter will organize the maiden Youth Day event in Madrid, Spain, from August 21-23, 2025. This event promises to be an exciting celebration of Nigerian youth culture, achievements, and aspirations. “As we look forward to this momentous occasion, we invite all Nigerian youths in the diaspora to join us in commemorating National Youth Day and contributing to the development of our great nation. Together, we can make a difference and create a brighter future for ourselves and generations to come,” he said.

Ambassador Idahosa concluded his message with a call for hope and optimism. “Let us create an enabling environment for our youths to excel and reach their full potential. Wishing you all a very prosperous New Year, 2025. God bless Nigeria and the Nigerian youths in the Diaspora,” he said.
