The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has destroyed seized products worth over N120 billion between October and December 2024.

This move is part of the agency’s renewed enforcement efforts across the six geopolitical zones and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

According to the Director General of NAFDAC, Prof Mojisola Adeyeye, the agency is committed to ensuring that only safe and wholesome food products reach Nigerian consumers, particularly during the festive season.

Adeyeye warned that individuals who compromise the quality of essential goods like food and medicine will face consequences in the coming year.

Key Seizures and Destructions
N11 billion worth of expired, unregistered drugs destroyed in Ibadan, Oyo State, on December 11, 2024.

N300 million worth of fake medicines seized during a raid of Tyre Village, Trade Fair Complex, Lagos State, in November.

N2 billion worth of counterfeit alcohol packaging centers seized in Lagos.
Over 1,600 bags of counterfeit rice worth about N5 billion confiscated at Wuse and Garki markets in Abuja.

Adeyeye emphasized the importance of procuring food and drinks from outlets with identifiable addresses and locations.

She also advised Nigerians to avoid medicines and packaged food products without NAFDAC numbers, noting that extremely cheap products are likely to be compromised.

NAFDAC has urged the public to be vigilant during the yuletide season and report any suspicious activities to the agency.

The agency’s Investigation and Enforcement Directorate will continue to mop up substandard and falsified medicines and unwholesome food items from markets across the country.
